1884: Josep Guardiola arrived to FC Barcelona to play on inferior categories.
1991: The former manager, Johan Cruyff, chose him as first team midfielder, where he was number 4 in one of the best FC Barcelona’s seasons, the ‘Dream Team’.
2001: He finishes his career at FC Barcelona and goes to Brescia. Accused of drug taking and found not guilty two years later.
2007: He starts as manager of Barça B
2008: Although most people doubts him, he is chosen as FC Barcelona’s manager.
This pretty much sums up Pep Guardiola’s trajectory. He is first a man, and then a well-known player that has become a great manager and, ultimately, a symbol.
A symbol not only because he got six titles in a year (eight in two years), but because he is an example of humility, honesty, effort and hard work. He has also succeeded in translating these values to his team, both inside and outside the field. It’s clear that he trusts his team, knows how to cheer them up, has authority and uses it to call his players attention while respecting them.
His work is known worldwide, and has its own book, Guardiola’s method. It’s all about believing in people and helping them on the personal aspects of their lives as well as on the professional ones. What else can you ask for?
It would be great that people could think always positively. He has proven it’s possible, FC Barcelona has done that too. Why can’t we follow their lead?
