This year is the 10th Mutua Madrid Open 2012 and it is at its best. The tournament has become, in just a decade, a benchmark of tennis, and therefore, one of the leading competitions in Spain.
The Madrid Open 2012 stands out because of three important points: it is played on clay in May (one of the best months of the year); the stage is the spectacular Caja Magica in Madrid; and there are both male and female competitions.
Andre Agassi (2002), Juan Carlos Ferrero (2003), Marat Safin (2004), Rafael Nadal (2005 and 2010), Roger Federer (2006 and 2009), David Nalbandian (2007), Andy Murray (2008), Novak Djokovic (2011), are the past winners of the Mutua Madrid Open- All of them won many points and prizes with their wins, because this tournament is part of the increasingly important Masters 1000 circuit (the former Tennis Masters Series), the second largest after the 4 Grand Slam tournaments. Masters 1000 includes also other important tournaments such as Indian Wells and Miami.
In the women’s category, Dinara Safina (2009), Aravane Rezai (2010) and Petra Kvitova (2011) have won the competition. Madrid Open 2012 is part of the Premier Mandatory category of the WTA Tour, so in the women’s, it’s also at the top of tennis (after the Grand Slams, like in men’s category).
All these players have played in the great ‘Caja Mágica’ (Magic Box), the City of Tennis in Madrid, designed by the architect Dominique Perrault. It is very big: there are three indoor and outdoor courts, plus many other facilities. The ‘Caja Mágica’ has a capacity of 20,000 people.
This year’s Mutua Madrid Open 2012 will be held from the 4th to the 13th of May. If you want to enjoy the best tennis in the world, and see it in the impressive ‘Caja Magica’ in Madrid, do not hesitate and book your tickets. When? We will have it for sale very soon!
