Barcelona vs Chelsea matches have become commonplace in the last few years. The Catalans and the Londoners faced each other on various occasions when Barça were managed by Rijkaard, and then in the semifinal of 2009 (with Guardiola), when Iniesta scored the goal that put his team into the final of the competition in the last minute.
The clashes between Chelsea and Barça have become popular because of the conflicts between the coaches and players and the referees’ attitude: Mourinho had arguments with both Rijkaard and Guardiola when he was Chelsea’s boss; Del Horno vs Messi; Cole vs Abidal…
We don’t know yet if all these things will happen again this year, but it is possible since Barcelona and Chelsea will play the semifinals. This time, though, without Mourinho. The first-leg took place at Stamford Brigde and the second-leg will be at the Camp Nou on the 24th of April.
Despite the final score of the first-leg, the second-leg in Barcelona will be the most decisive clash. In matches as important as this nothing is decided until the last minute of the round, and this time the round ends at the Camp Nou.
Barça are the current champions of the Champions League. This year they will try to win the title again to become the first team to win it two consecutive years. Barça have been defeated by Chelsea in the first-leg by 1-0, but they believe that they will reach the final. Moreover, they could play the final against Real Madrid, if Los Blancos defeat Bayern Munich in the second-leg at the Santiago Bernabeu.
On the other hand, Chelsea will try to maintain their 1-0 average that they achieved at Stamford Bridge in the first-leg to reach this year’s final. However, Chelsea know that it will be difficult for them because Barcelona are very strong at the Camp Nou.
