This Saturday at 10 pm Spain and more than half of the world will be paralyzed once more to see the ‘Clasico’ at the Santiago Bernabeu. The matches played between Barça and Real Madrid are incredible football shows, so football fans don’t want to miss them.
This week we are probably facing one of the most exciting Clásicos in recent years. After a few seasons in which FC Barcelona dominated Spanish (and world) football and therefore was clearly superior to Real Madrid, everything has changed.
The quality of the two great teams of Spanish football is unquestionable, but their equality is no longer so clear, at least for some people. And that is not to say that the Catalans are better, something that has been asserted frequently up until this season, but rather opinion goes now in favour of ‘Los Blancos’. Mou’s team has improved, it is now more united and powerful, and has therefore been at the top of the league for several rounds. Barça are in the second position of La Liga with 3points less than Real Madrid, but after having played one game more.
Winning this Clasico at the Bernabeu is crucial for both teams. Real Madrid want to win in order to establish themselves at the top of La Liga: if they defeat Barcelona they will reach 40 points. The Catalans would ‘only’ have 34, and 6 points of difference after having played one match more would be a considerable difference. However, Guardiola and all Barça players know that if they win this Clasico they will be co-leaders with Real Madrid, so they will give it their best shot.
This Saturday’s Clasico will be another clash (the seventh in 2011!) between Mourinho and Guardiola, Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi, Casillas and Valdés, Higuaín and Villa… The last Real Madrid v Barcelona match was also at the Santiago Bernabeu in April and the teams tied with 1 goal each…
What do you think will happen this Saturday?
