This week Cristiano Ronaldo has been awarded with the ‘Pichichi’, the title for the player who has scored the most in the Spanish League. Now the Portuguese owns the same number of ‘Pichichi’ prizes as Messi.
Ronaldo has achieved this title after having scored 48 goals in 35 matches (1.37 goals per game). It is becoming usual to see that the ‘Pichichi’ scores so much goals (Messi scored 50 goals in season 2011-12, Ronaldo was the first player to score 40 in 2010-11, etc.), but a few years ago it was impossible to imagine. In fact, so legendary La Liga strikers as Van Nistelrooy, Eto’o or Ronaldo Nazario never scored more than 30 goals.
After achieving the Pichichi, Ronaldo will not be behind Messi in the Pichichi Top List: both have won three titles. However, this equality has been broken in the Alfredo di Stéfano Title (for the best player of the season). This year Messi has been awarded with it, so now the Argentinean owns five titles, while Ronaldo has achieved four.
Regarding the clubs, Real Madrid is the “Pichichi king” with 27 titles; followed by Barcelona with 13; Bilbao with 12; and Atletico Madrid with 10.
