Finales de noviembre. La clasificación para los octavos de la Champions está, por esos días, al rojo vivo, es el momento del quinto partido de la primera fase. De hecho, hay equipos, los que van más sobrados, que hasta la consiguen ya en el cuarto partido, pero la gran mayoría lo hacen en este, el quinto, o en el último, que es cuando se juegan sus últimas cartas…

El quinto (y casi seguro) más que decisivo partido para el Real Madrid lo jugará en casa ante el Dinamo de Zagreb. De momento la cosa ha empezado bastante bien para los de Mourinho. Un partido, una victoria. Y fuera de casa, frente al Dinamo, también. 3 puntos muy valiosos pero juego mediocre y hasta momentos de nervios. En principio el conjunto croata no debería suponer un gran problema para las estrellas madridistas, pero no todo es tan fácil como puede parecer… Sin embargo, si nos fijamos solo en las puras matemáticas, el Real Madrid es primero de grupo y el único que se ha llevado los 3 puntos en el único partido jugado. Ajax y Olympique, que, como el Dinamo, parecen estar condenados a competir por el segundo puesto, empataron…

Por lo que al Real Madrid – Dinamo se refiere, aunque la distancia tanto en jugadores, juego y trayectoria internacional sea abismal entre el equipo español y el croata, pudimos ver en el primer partido de la ronda como el Dinamo no se escondió en ningún momento ni tuvo miedo, afortunadamente. Los de Zagreb no pararon de atacar hasta el final del partido, también después del gol madridista. Les faltó entrar más en el área, ya que sus jugadas terminaban antes de entrar en esta, y carecieron de gol, pero nos dieron buen fútbol y hasta pusieron en aprietos al equipo de Mourinho. Estaban en su campo, sí, ¿pero quién dice que no puedan jugar igual en el Bernabeu? O al menos que no lo intenten… Al Dinamo le gusta atacar y no se deja vencer, así que el Madrid tendrá que estar bien atento para contrarrestar los ataques de los croatas e intentar encarrilar el partido lo antes posible si no quiere pasar apuros…

Real Madrid is the favourite team of Group D to reach the second round of the Champions League. The Spanish team will face the historic European champion Ajax Amsterdam; the famous French club that it faces almost every year, Olympique Lyon; and Dinamo Zagreb, the Croatian team which is ‘a priori’ the weakest of the group.

The first of the matches that Jose Mourinho’s team will play at home will be against Ajax on Tuesday, September 27th. In recent years, Ajax hasn’t won important titles outside of the Netherlands and they aren’t one of the biggest teams in Europe anymore. However, several years ago the Dutch team was one of the biggest in Europe: they won important titles such as Champions, Cup Winners’ Cup, European Super Cups… The best period for Ajax was in the 70s when the team, led by Johann Cruyff, won 3 consecutive Champions. In those years Ajax was one of the strongest teams in Europe, remember, for example, that in 1995 the Dutch team had already won 4 Champions, and Barça had won just one.

It’s clear that Ajax isn’t the team that once was, but it’s also clear that nowadays they still have potential. The current coach of Ajax is the former Barça player Frank De Boer. Last year he took the team to the first position of the Eredivisie and finally they won the league after seven seasons (Ajax is the team which has won the Dutch league most times). In the first round of the Champions League of last year Real Madrid and Ajax were part of the same group, like this year. In the first part of last season the Spanish played better than the Dutch so in the second match in the Amsterdam Arena Real Madrid won by 0-4. Last year it was impossible for Ajax to beat Real.

El Real Madrid es el máximo favorito para quedar primero del Grupo D de la primera fase de la Champions de este año y, por lo tanto, de pasar a los octavos de la máxima competición continental. En frente tendrá al histórico campeón europeo, el Ajax de Amsterdam; al famoso club francés con el que casi cada año se enfrenta, y sufre, el Olympique de Lyon; y al Dinamo de Zagreb, el equipo croata que es ‘a priori’ el más débil del grupo.

El primero de los partidos que el equipo de José Mourinho jugará en casa será contra el Ajax el martes 27 de septiembre. El equipo holandés hace ya bastantes años que no cosecha títulos importantes a nivel europeo ni destaca entre los más grandes del viejo continente, igual que la liga en la que juega, la Eredivisie, que se ha ido debilitando en las últimas décadas. Lejos quedan, pues, las cuatro Copas de Europa que el Ajax ganó hace ya un tiempo (3 de la mano de Cruyff en los años 70), y esas épocas en las que los neerlandeses eran un referente en toda Europa (cabe recordar, por ejemplo, que cuando el Ajax ya había conseguido 4 Copas de Europa en el año ‘95, el Barça ‘acababa’ de ganar su primera).

Claro está que el Ajax ya no es el mismo de antes, pero esto no significa que el equipo neerlandés no guarde todavía parte del gran potencial que un día tubo, y más en esta temporada. Conducido por el ex barcelonista Frank De Boer, el Ajax ganó el año pasado la Eredivisie después de siete temporadas sin hacerlo (es el club holándes con más ligas) y su juego fue mejorando con el transcurso de los meses. En la primera fase de la temporada pasada, Real Madrid y Ajax quedaron, como ahora, emparejados en el mismo grupo. Destacan de estos encuentros, por una parte, el juego sucio de los dos equipos en el partido del Bernabeu, y por otra, el clarísimo dominio del conjunto blanco sobre el que entrena De Boer, al que ganó por 0-4 jugando fuera. El Real Madrid, que está mejor en el principio de esta temporada que en el de la pasada, no querrá dejar pasar la oportunidad de imponerse en su estadio a un equipo que, pese no ser de los mejores de Europa, es seguramente el segundo mejor del grupo.

Mou y su 11, como todos sabemos, no lo pondrán nada fácil a la cuadrilla de la capital de los Países Bajos.
