FC Barcelona will play their 13th La Liga match against Rayo Vallecano at the Camp Nou on Tuesday the 29th of November. The quality of Guardiola’s team and the fact that they are playing at the Nou Camp could make people think that Barça can’t lose the 3 points, but Barça’s victory isn’t so clear… Rayo Vallecano isn’t exactly a team which can be beaten as easily as some people think. They’re in the 8th position of La Liga and only 2 points from the Europa League, so FC Barcelona should work hard to defeat them.
Today Barça are 2nd in the league table and are just 3 points behind Real Madrid. Some years ago a lot of ‘culés’ (Barça fans) would be happy to see Barça just 3 points behind the leader in the 11th week of La Liga… Now, though, the winning tendency of the Catalans and the great rivalry with Real Madrid (it seems that there are just two teams in La Liga and that isn’t so) have changed the thinking of some people… In fact, some journalists have said that what Barça are experiencing (or were experiencing some weeks ago) is a crisis… And they are just 3 points far from the leader, Real Madrid, 3 points that can be gained in a match (could it be the Clasico?)…
Maybe the 25 points won by Barcelona, or the 34 scored goals, or the fact that they are the only La Liga team which hasn’t lost a game yet, have not been appreciated enough… Maybe these journalists don’t realize that if Real Madrid are ahead it is because they have improved, not because Barça isn’t ‘the same’ team… Maybe… They also said that Messi was in crisis too, and he’s now the top scorer of La Liga with 14 goals…
Barça will face Rayo Vallecano on the 29th of November. Rayo is a newly promoted team but it’s achieving good results: 15 points won and 8th in the classification. Moreover, they defeated Real Sociedad in the last match, by 4-0… However, it’s true that it is difficult for the rivals to play well at the Camp Nou –and also score goals, and win matches- but Rayo Vallecano will fight to do it. Jose Ramón Sandoval, Vallecano’s coach, will try to take advantage of the fast-paced rhythm of matches that Barça play in order to get a good result at the Camp Nou.
