There are just two matches left to end the first round of the Champions League and the Spanish clubs are doing it well. There’s just one exception, Real Sociedad. The rest, Atlético Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid will play the last 16 round.

Atlético Madrid

Atletico Madrid are the undisputed leader of the Group G. The “rojiblancos” have won all the matches so they will take part in the last 16 round. They are also one of the teams who have scored more goals (12). In the Group G there is a fight between Zenit and Oporto to classify in the second position. Austria Wien has it much more difficult to get to the next phase.

Barcelona have achieved 10 points out of 12 so the Catalans are the leader of the Group H. The only 2 points Barça haven’t won were against AC Milan. However, Gerardo Martino’s squad defeated the other considered “great team” of the group, Ajax, by 4-0. Barcelona are very close to the last 16 round, so the rest of teams will fight for the second position.

Real Madrid

Los Blancos are in the same situation as their biggest rival, but in the Group B. Real have won 3 of the 4 matches they have played, so the only 2 points they lost were against Juventus. Before starting the competition, Real and Juventus were the favourite teams to pass, but now the Italians are in the last position. Galatasaray and Copenhague are in the middle of the classification.

Real Sociedad

Real Sociedad are the only Spanish teams who are not doing it well in the Champions League. They have just achieved 1 point, so they are in the last position of the Group A. The fight to get the next round will be taken by Man United, Bayer Leverkusen and Shaktar Donetsk. What Real Sociedad can only do is to win the next matches in order to achieve the third position which will allow them to play the Europa League.
